WINTER
SCENE |
|
| This was made as a special project.
The brief was for a scene of any type made inside a cigar box, the outside could be decorated but no additions to it could be made. My cigar box was a cheap quality shallow wooden one so I painted the outside gold, applied crackle finish then dark blue. This was the first time I had used crackle finish and was pleased with the effect it gave. |

The Completed scene |
|
| It is a white Christmas and the children
have made snowmen and a snowdog in the garden. After they
went indoors the Snowfolk came to life. Rich-Snowman puffs his cigar while his brother Poor-Snowman who has been neglected looks sorry for himself. Beggar-Snowman has nothing but some snow in his wooden bowl and now Thief-Snowman is trying to take his scarf, nearly throttling him in the attempt. Thief-Snowman already has a scarf and one wonders if this was taken from Poor-Snowman. Soon Beggar-Snowman's Snowdog will see what is happening and prevent his master losing his scarf. The family cat is waiting against the front door in the hope he will soon be let in. |

| Close up
of the snow folk in the garden. They are not fixed in
place to allow the box to be closed and for them to be re-arranged
if required. Icicles hang from the window sill. |
|
| The
garden gnome sits on a tree stump fishing through a hole
in the frozen pond. Like the Snowfolk he was sculpted from Fimo. |
