"THE HAPPY CAT"
INTRODUCTION
| My first 'house' was DHE's "The
Country Store" started in the summer
of 2000 and which I am still working on, the ground floor
comprises greengrocery and general grocers on one side
and bakery shop on the other. Above is a tea-room
decorated in mock Tudor style. A small flat for the owner
is situated in the attic. False doors suggest more rooms
at the back of the building. The general inspiration for
this model was a very old building in Amersham,
Buckinghamshire which I loved to visit when I was a
child, the shop downstairs seemed to sell everything and
anything. I can clearly remember china ornaments, goose
eggs and bread and cakes! A cut-away section of wall with
glass panel over showed the wattle and daub construction.
Upstairs was a wonderful tea-room which served delicious
toasted tea-cakes and jam. I made all the furniture except the piano (purchased before I discovered I could manage simple carpentry) and the building is an ideal place to display the food and many other items which I make. |

THE NAME The dollshouse is called "The Happy Cat" in memory of a dearly loved pet cat, Puff, who purred so much and so loudly he was referred to by a friend as "a very happy cat" (as per a Monty Python sketch). Puff supervised the assembly of the kit but sadly died three months later (at almost 17 years of age). |
